This is for an assignment for my Digital Imaging class. Firstly, this is actually a photograph that I took on an Mamiya RB67 last year for my design class. My assignment for the Digital Imaging class was to use a film scanner to make a digital copy of it. The top picture is the digital copy without any editing done to it. The image below is after I went in and fixed it up a little in photoshop. I really like how it turned out and I love the look of film. I thought this was really fun and I would love to do it again.

Printing
This is a photograph of my Grandparents cat that I took for
my Custom Color Printing class. The assignment was to print the picture on
three different types of paper so we had to keep changing the picture so it
would look right on the different types of paper. I did this by making test
strips first. I like the way the picture turned out. When I printed it for the
first time I was amazed at how it looked right on the computer but the print
looked dark and not at all like it did on the computer screen. It was fun
learning how to fix that so that I could make a good professional looking
print.

Texture
This is a picture of my Bilum (a bag from Papua New Guinea)
that I shot for my Product Lighting Class.
It was done by using a Ferrell Light to light it from the side and then I
used a couple of gobos to get rid of the light I didn’t want.
I like how this
picture turned out. It took a while to get it the way I wanted it but I’m happy
with the result. The point of the assignment was to take a picture that showed
the texture of the object and I think that this picture does that exactly.
Plastic

This is a picture I took for my Product Lighting class. For
the most part I like how it turned out but I hate that I didn’t see the orange
clip in the bottom left hand corner. The white balance is also a bit off. I
like how the highlight on the left side showed up.
I had fun doing this assignment though, and I thought I would
show a ‘behind the scenes’ photo of how I set it up.
My only light source was a Ferrell Light and I blocked light
and created the highlights with gobos and fill cards.

Baseball
I really had a lot of fun shooting this. This is my first
stab at sports photography. This was shot for my Small Format class.
This picture is at a Copperheads game in Asheboro NC. I was
shooting with a giant 300mm lens on a monopod. That was really cool.
I really like how this picture has the player sliding to the
base and has the ball floating somewhere above him since the other player
missed catching it. I also think that there is just enough face in it to pass
by. I think that it is a pretty good picture but I’m hoping to get some better
ones at my next game.
Fruit
This is a picture of fruit/vegetables I had to take for my
Custom Color Printing class. I actually
had a lot of fun with this. We were told to shoot in Jpeg instead of RAW and to
use an incorrect white balance. We then had to fix everything in photoshop. I
actually really enjoyed it.
I like how this picture turned out. It isn’t perfect but it
looks a lot better than where it started. The oranges look a little vibrant to
me but I wasn’t sure exactly how to fix that without messing up the rest of the
picture.

Camilla
This photograph is of another
stranger, also taken in Downtown Kannapolis NC, last Sunday. Her name is Camilla. She was extremely nice,
friendly and more than willing to let me take her photograph.
I like how this photograph
turned out. I think the colors are really nice and I also really like the depth
of field. I do wish, however, that there was more light in her eyes.
This picture was taken with a
35mm lens. It was the first time I had really ever used one for anything other
than technical assignments and I had a lot of fun with it.
Street Photography
This was for another assignment at RCC taken in downtown Charlotte NC. This is my
first real attempt at Street Photography. I like how the picture turned out
except that I really wish I had taken it horizontal instead of portrait orientation. I wasn’t allowed
to crop it for the assignment so I decided to leave it uncropped for this blog
also.
I think the photograph shows
the personality of the city. The man walking in front of Elvis in the same pose
just sort of brings Elvis out of the wall. It looks as though Elvis could be
strolling down the sidewalk also.

Stranger
This is a photograph I took for school. The assignment was
about taking a photograph of a stranger. This is a women I came across while
walking around in downtown Kannapolis. Sadly, in my panic of asking a stranger
if I could take their picture, I forgot to ask her what her name was.
Though the focus is a little bit off, I still really like how this picture turned out considering it was the first time I had ever done something like that before. Thankfully, my temporary panic didn’t make me forget about the catchlights which I made sure were there. I also really like the light in this photograph.

Self Portrait

I found it kind of fitting that I should start this blog off
with a picture of myself. This is a self-portrait that I took of myself for an
assignment at school. After much trial and error I am really happy with the way
it came out.
Since I was taking a picture of myself with the camera on a timer, focusing was the biggest issue. I tried focusing on myself manually and with Autofocus but no matter how close I got, it wasn’t sharp enough. It took a while but in the end, with the help of my younger sister letting me focus on her first, it finally turned out.
